City of Minneapolis
To set a road map for making Minneapolis truly sustainable, Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak and the Minneapolis City Council started integrating sustainability principles into decision making for the city’s 380,000 residents. Minneapolis prides itself on creating and enacting environmentally progressive policies and facilities and the city government positions the community to be a positive example for other municipalities that are striving towards more sustainable practices. Through policies that require LEED building Silver Level requirements, the use of green cleaning products and putting a preference on environmentally friendly purchasing, the City is actively working to change for the better. Minneapolis has also made it a priority to show the public areas in which it is making progress and areas that need more attention. Minneapolis Greenprint is an annually produced document that details 25 different sustainability indicators in the city. For more information, visit the city’s Sustainability website.
